The NORTHSTAR Carvers are larger than the K-STAR Carvers and have their own frames. They are capable of doing both relief (flat backed) and 360° (full round) carving. The NORTHSTAR Carver can carve from one to eight duplicates of one pattern at a time by a single operator. They have a cutting range of up to 36" in length, with options up to 72". Width capacities available are 10" or 20" centers.
Most types of woods can be carved to reproduce almost anything the operator chooses within the carver's size capacity.
All the NORTHSTAR models feature cutting spindles that turn at 11,000 RPM. Spindles feature top quality sealed ball bearings and direct belt drives with no idlers. Removable tables for flat work and a reverse mechanism for making simultaneous left and right handed copies of a pattern are optional accessories.
The operator fastens the pattern to be duplicated into the machine's tracing station. Work blanks are fastened in the carving stations, cutters are installed in the carving spindle chucks and a matching stylus is installed in the stylus holder. The operator then traces over the pattern detail with the stylus. Corresponding cutting operations are simultaneously performed on the work blanks by the rotating cutters. Full 360° rotation of the pattern and blanks is easily accomplished through use of the center turning crank. |
